Echoes of the Picture Palace is a Concert that Award-winning artist Nick Russoniello and the Golden Age Quartet reimagined the magic of picture palace, taking us on an enchanting journey with their expressive and dynamic performance.

Nick Russoniello showcased this new musical score with performing on a beautiful 1920s saxophone, saxophones, piano, cello and violin.

The Concert also featured humorous and interesting commentary, screening of Charlie Chaplin's 'The Immigrant' and stories of early cinema through a series of works by Camille Saint-Saens, Rudy Wiedoeft and Charlie Chaplin.

History's great silent film 'The Immigrant' was brought to life by the magnificent performance by saxophone virtuoso Nick Russoniello and the Golden Age Quartet. This world premiere, Charlie Chaplin's The Immigrant was projected onto a screen and animated by a performance of an original musical score. Each scene from the film from bar fights, seasickness, and a heated card game to a rolling romance was all played out to beautiful lush string lines, improvised piano solos and wild saxophone licks.

The Concert also featured Australia's earliest surviving film Patineur Grotesque (1896) which was accompanied by concert pianist Daniel Rojas.

The afternoon was breathtakingly beautiful and filled with awe-inspiring music, cinema, costumes, colour, and cake!

Nick Russoniello- Saxophones, Daniel Rojas- Piano, Paul Stender- Cello and Julia Russoniello- Violin did a marvellous job executing the concert pieces and transforming the audience back in time. It was a stellar and magical performance!

In the 1920s, America fell in love with the movies; Hollywood first stars were born on the silver screens of silent films although silent in name, films of the 1920s shown in picture palaces where the images sprang to life through the music performed by a live orchestra.

Nick Russoniello has received several major awards, including the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year and the Fine Music Kruger Scholarship. Nick appeared as a soloist with the Adelaide, Queensland, Melbourne, and Sydney Symphony Orchestras as well as a guest performer with the Acacia Quartet, Omega Ensemble, Australian Opera Ballet Orchestra and the Australian World Orchestra. Nick's compositions performed around the globe, and his performances can be heard on ABC Classic FM and Fine Music 102.5. Nick is a Yamaha Australian Artist.

The Golden Age Quartet is known for its highly expressive and dynamic performances of early-twentieth-century repertoire. This concert features Chilean-born Australian pianist Daniel Rojas. Rojas is an award-winning composer and performer specialising in Latin and tango music and stunning improvisations at the keyboard. String players Anthea Cottee and Julia Russoniello have together performed with Australia's most elite period performance ensembles including Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra, Pinchgut Opera and Bach Akademie Australia.
