Nick Earls at H. J Daley Library (Sydney Writers Festival 2015)

In 2015 the Sydney Writers Festival is running from May 18th to the 24th at various venues around Sydney. There is a wide selection of events on offer, both free and ticketed. For people out in Sydney's South West, one of the free events making up the festival is the Visiting Authors Program being hosted at Campbelltown's H.J Daley Library .

Brisbane author Nick Earls will be visiting to discuss his latest novel 'Analogue Men'. The book is a comedic and insightful look into 21st Century life and the challenges many of us face. 'Analogue Men', in particular, tackles the experiences of a 49 year old man and how he copes with his difficulty handling the speed of changing technology - in contrast with the ability of those around him to ride the wave. Published in July 2014, the book has received positive reviews.

A young adult, adult and a children's writer, Nick Earls appeals to many ages with his stories and as a result has received international recognition for his work, having had a number of his books translated into foreign languages. As the author of 19 books in total, including 'Welcome To Normal'. and 'Zigzag Street', Nick Earls is a writer who has managed to cross age barriers as well as genres . A number of his works have been adapted for theatre and he has won awards for his writing including Book of the Year (older readers) by the Children's Book Council of Australia in 2000 for '48 Shades of Brown'.

Nick Earls spent his part of his life as a doctor and was born in Northern Ireland, despite spending most of his life in Australia. Nick is married with a son - Patrick - whom he and his wife adopted from China.

If you aren't able to attend, Nick Earls will also be part of another Sydney Writers Festival event along with Australian writer, Wayne Macauley , to be held in Walsh Bay on the 22nd of May. In this panel, they will explore the way technology is playing a part in distracting us from life issues we should be addressing. Ticket Price $14, booking required.
