The NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) have just launched their online courses which kicks off in July 2020. Bookings are required for these 4 & 5 week (*) courses and prices come in for the basic course at $49 and $44 members. Premium is $149 and $134 members. The basic course includes a 7 or 8 week (*depends on which course you're attending) access to learning materials from the start of course date and the premium gives you the same access plus 4 & 5 (*) virtual study sessions led by an NGV educator to explore the weekly content and answer your queries.
Virtual study sessions are delivered via Webex each week and capacity is limited to 15 people for either enrolment to Surrealism - 1920s to Now (2 course start dates - Mon 13 Jul 10am & Mon 24 Aug 10am) or The Art of Writing (2 course start dates - Mon 20 Jul 10am & Mon 31 Aug 10am). Follow the given links for more information on weekly subject matter, virtual study session date and times and to book your spot. Numbers are limited so get in early if you're keen.
By the end of the Surrealism course you'll be able to define the history and evolution of Surrealism and identify key artists; describe the role it played in Australian art and discus and interpret this art form and its influence on contemporary art and visual culture. If you have a love for the written word, the Writing course will give you the skills to self-edit, reshape and refine your original pieces of writing, not to mention creating and generating original texts inspired by artworks and professional pieces of prose and poetry.
