Australia's oldest and most-visited gallery, NGV put on more than its fair share of events to engage the public, entertain, challenge and inspire us. With a full lineup of events already in the works until October 2025 - there's always something in the program to engage kids in their formative years. NGV Kids Summer Festival which runs from 11-17 January 2025 from 11am to 4pm daily is such a program perfect for the school holidays. Head to The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Fed Square and NGV International, St Kilda Road for activities and fun things to do.

Check out the Program for a week filled with free hands-on activities, interactive exhibitions, and stories just for kids and families. For starters why not catch Cats & Dogs on Sat 11 Jan 2025 from 10am to 5pm. A ticketed exhibition , entry is free for kids 5-15 years of age on launch day. Redeem your free tickets here . Bookings are required and children must be accompanied by an adult. For this one day only, check out more than 250 works of art and design that explore our deep connection to our felines and pooches.   • Sat 11 Jan 12-3pm at Fed Square Atrium - Cats and Dogs Face Painting - Free face painting that'll transform you into a playful pup or curious cat.
  • Sat 11 Jan 6-7.30pm at Fed Sq Main Stage - Best in Show Screening - Enjoy a free open-air screening.
  • Sat 11 Jan 11am, 12pm, 1pm at Fed Sq Main Stage - Farmer Dave and the Muttley Crew - a high-energy and educational show. Witness the antics and athleticism of these super dogs, and discover how to be responsible dog owners. Bookings not required.
  • Sat 11 Jan to Fri 17 Jan 11am-4pm at Foyer, Level 3, The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Aust, Fed Sq - Furry Friend Headband Art Making Activity - Kids can create their own set of cat or dog ears by drawing fur patterns and details inspired by their favourite pets and wear them for the day.
  • Sat 11 Jan to Fri 17 Jan 11am-4pm in multiple locations at The Ian Potter Centre, Fed Sq- My Pet Portrait Drawing Activity - Visit the Cats & Dogs Exhibition (the exhibition runs till 20 Jul 2025) before drawing a portrait of one of the animals. Meet artists who will give you tips on how to draw a cat or dog at these drop-by drawing activities. See given link for Artists and Locations on various dates.
  • Sat 11 Jan to Fri 17 Jan alternating times (1.30pm one day, 3pm the next) - Cat & Dog Tales Storytime - Enjoy a storytime session led by Koorie Heritage Trust educator and artist Tania Rossi. The book selection will highlight First Nations authors who introduces kids to diverse voices and perspectives


  • NGV Kids on Tour 2025 is coming to you these school holidays. There are art events like free workshops and activities for every age for children and families across Victoria. Find your local NGV Kids on Tour Venue via the given link . The activities designed by artists and designers to ignite your imagination and creativity can also be found via the link. Make a furry friend headband, or draw the bogong moth with Dr Deanne Gilson, a proud Wadawurrung woman - there's plenty to enjoy. Perhaps create a paper doll and design sets of a paper clothing wardrobe with Melbourne-based fashion designers and sisters Fatuma and Laurinda Ndenzako. In light of the upcoming Kusama Exhibition - there are 'lots of dots' activities that'll help early readers to learn about colours, practise counting, through an introduction to one of the world's leading contemporary artists. For ages 12+ years, Gomeroi Yinarr artist from Tamworth, Sophie Honess will invite you to be inspired by the natural world around you. Create a bush flower pompom using yarn, embroidery thread and colourful felts to add to your school bag, key chain or anything else.

    If you can make it into NGV International, Ground Level, Children's Gallery between 15 Dec 2024 to 21 Apr 2025 - you can enjoy Kusama for Kids . The Obliteration Room will invite everyone to obliterate a white domestic interior by sticking multi-coloured polka dots over every surface. Be sure to explore NGV Kids for free online activities for children aged 3-5 years via the Under 5s Series where each session is delivered live. There are also activity sheets and games available for free download, and on demand videos to enjoy.

    NGV Teens: Art Party


    Save the date in the diary for the Teens Art Party on Sat 1 Mar 2025 from 6-9pm. Book Now (early bird tickets at $25), so as not to miss out on a vibrant night of fun, colour and creativity. This is also your chance to have exclusive access to the world-premier exhibition, Yayoi Kusama . An event for secondary school-aged students, bring your second school ID or Victorian Student Pass on the night. Full program coming soon.
