I have just watched a performance of the ARA Darling Quarter Theatre's production of Next to Normal. This musical focuses on Diana who is a mother with bipolar disorder, and how this affects her life and her family.


This show does tackle some heavy issues, so I want to warn you to go into it knowing that the themes can be quite intense, and although there are plenty of comedic moments I would hesitate before calling this a comedy.

The show takes you on a journey alongside the characters where you get to watch their progress fast forward over at least the course of a year. The show blends the theatrical with the real world by tackling real-life challenges but providing an artistic twist to the retelling.


The performers are all very talented, including singing, dancing and of course excellent acting skills. Plus there is a live mini orchestra that provides the audio for the show. If you'd like to see more about the performers and the cast and crew you can check out the digital program .
