Newtown Thai, as its name suggest, is located on one of the busy streets of Newtown in Sydney, it provides customers with cheap and tasty Thai cuisine in generous portions, the pricing is very affordable. Lunch starts from $6 for dishes such as Thai green curry, chicken cashew nuts with rice and hokkien noodles; extra rice can be asked for an additional $1. The dishes are well seasoned and packed full of flavors and fragrance. There are decent amounts of green vegetables in each meal on the menu, making them not only colourful and appetizing to look at, but also much superior in terms of nutritional value compared to your average fast food experience.
The environment at Newtown Thai is not the greatest, as the restaurant is generally packed during lunch hours, and there is ls not a lot of space in the dining area. The simple decorations gives the place a down to earth feel, wood paneling on the walls also adds a distinct tropical vibe to the place.
Occasionally a bit of waiting is needed to get a seat, though the the service more than make up for it, the staff will get to you straight away and there is little waiting time for food to be put on your table. From within the restaurant diners can easily see the busy streets outside at their tables, so if you're looking for high class dining then this place is not for you. However if you are like me, and just want to fully immerse yourself within the local environment; while at the same time have a great meal with good value to your money, then look no further.
