Part of the Good Food Month celebration, the Newtown Good Food Fair takes place on Sunday 11th October 2015.

The Newtown Food Fair will showcase the unique culinary delights of Newtown's local restaurants, cafes and providores. Some of the best known restaurants will gather to offer up their signature favourites in street food form to locals and visitors alike, and to raise funds for the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre.

The 2014 Newtown Good Food Fair was centred around Newtown Square and attracted over 3000 visitors. Following the success of last year's event, it is anticipated that the 2015 event is going to be even bigger with the event doubling in size and capacity.

This year, the fair will expand into the Whateley Street Car Park to allow an additional 12 stalls and a licensed area for beverage tastings.

I attended the Newtown Good Food Fair last year and it was a lot of fun. Some of the communities biggest eateries (including Southern food Miss Peaches, Mad Pizza e Bar , the Coopers Hotel and Bloodwood), transformed King Street into a hive of activity for foodies.

Immediately we were attracted at the sight of a whole roasted Spring lamb on the spit! The smoky BBQ aroma was distinctive and accelerated our hunger attack. What more could we ask for than some BBQ grilled meat on a lovely Spring day?

Some drinks perhaps?

I loved Milkbar's Red Chill Frappe. The refreshing flavors of watermelon and rose water in this icy sweet Frappe was perfect refreshment to cool down on a warm Spring day. It was an instant hit with everyone.

We also got Blackwood's wasabi chicken salad with the good intention to balance the heavy meaty meal. The char-coaled chicken was very tasty and tender.

One of the things I love most about going to food festivals in Sydney is that it introduces you to different food ideas and an opportunity to explore the nearby neighbourhood.

It was the perfect opportunity for us to stop by the Blackstar Pastry, Newtown's famous boutique cake shop for some desserts.

We ordered the signature Strawberry Watermelon Cake with Rose scented Cream and it was the best decision of the day.

The cake consisted 2 layers of almond dacquoise filled with fresh whipped cream, watermelon, strawberries and topped with Iranian pistachios and rose petals. It was just beautiful to look at it and to taste it.

The cake was refreshing, light and not overwhelming sweet. The thin layer of rose water gelatin made this dessert so elegant. I just adored it.

Depending on the occasion, Blackstar might release limited-edition dessert like the Black Star's Plum Slinger.

It was a fancy dessert with sandalwood pastry cup served with lychee & ginger sorbet, freeze-dried plums, frankincense sugar, pop rocks and a shot of mint gel. It was visually spectacular and the taste was uniquely fresh. However, I still preferred the classic Watermelon & Strawberry cake.

After the dessert indulgences, we browsed the food fair once more and noticed that majority of the dishes were all sold out!

No-one does a good food fair better than Newtown where you can sample several restaurant-quality dishes at affordable market prices. Get in early to avoid disappointment.

Discover the wonderful world of culinary delights Newtown have to offer. See you there!
