Want to enjoy a festival with a great variety of music plus loads of other entertainment? Then the Newport Folk Festival is for you. All of the events are literally within a few minutes walk (if not next door) to each other and conveniently located close to Newport Station. It's not too hard to park in the area either.

While the focus is on folk music there is a "brass and dance" theme and performances by individuals, bands and choirs of everything from ska, country, classical, jazz, blues, gypsy and celtic music and more. There's also singing, dancing, workshops, lessons and exhibitions.

For those who want to join in you can play with the Newport Bush Band (all instruments and their players welcome), there is also The Bus – Brass Experience (try a brass instrument), or you can join in the workshops in Blues Mandolin, Gypsy Swing, Swing Dancing, Irish Dancing, Jamaican rhythms, tapdancing and guitar lessons.

A smorgasboard of extra activities are available to engage everyone in the family. There's an art exhibition, a talk by Vincent Burke of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, storytelling, and a youth film festival. Not to mention Trugo (a local sport, described as a cross between AFL and croquet), sourdough bread making, drawing lessons, a craft workshop and a display of vintage cars.

There are lots of activities for the kids, storytelling, music and dance and on the Sunday of the festival at the Substation there is the Fairies & Friends Wonderland DayClub.

There is also a shopping experience with the Substation Artists Market on the Sunday from 10.00am – 3.00pm.
