The cool new waterpark at Newmarket Olympic Pool has something for everyone. They have a huge 30 metre double loop waterslide for the daring older kids ($2 for an unlimited wristband) and a really fun fountain area for little ones, however the highlight for everyone seems to be the giant tipping bucket.
If you have not checked out the new renovations to the Newmarket Olympic Pool, then it is well worth the effort. There is a brand new water slide and brand new "Splashpad" area where my kids loved spraying each other with spurting seahorses water cannons, sitting on spurting jellyfishes and running under the dripping whale archway. They spent hours waiting over and over for the bucket to fill and tip hundreds of litres of water on their heads and squealed with delight each time. This is the perfect place to cool off over a hot Brisbane summer and you will be definitely covered in water if you sit anywhere near the splashpad area.
After all that swimming, the children were totally waterlogged and played in the fantastic new pirate themed playground. This is also really amazing with an entire pirate ship to run around on and an engaging treasure hunt to follow. Newmarket Olympic Pool still has another five small waterslides for younger children to enjoy and a wonderful shaded toddler pool with a frog slide and giant caterpillars to climb on. There are barbecue areas, a basic kiosk, picnic tables and some grass to lie on, so it is actually possible to spend the entire day at the pool during summer.
