Stuck in Brisbane, sweating buckets, wishing a water theme park would move in next door? Well, it might not be Wet 'n' Wild, but Newmarket Pools on Alderson Street is a pretty great alternative to driving to the Gold Coast and paying mega-bucks to have fun getting wet.

Located just off Enoggera Rd in the north of Brisbane, Newmarket Pools has themed water play areas, a mini lagoon, water slides, giant worms that pour water on your head and even a playground. Bigger kids can hire out inflatable tyres for $4 an hour and chill out in the Olympic pool (carefully avoiding the lap swimmers of course) and little ones can swim in the 25m undercover pool. There is plenty of undercover seating for mums and dads and even free sunscreen for those who forgot the slop in slip, slop, slap.

Entry is $4 per person, and there is even a little canteen that serves coffee as well as icy poles and cold drinks. Newmarket Pools are a very popular local hang out, so be prepared to share, but if you want to entertain the kids and keep cool at the same time, it's well worth the trip.
