This fledgling market at the Newmarket Bowls Club has Newmarket residents excited and ready to support their very own local market. Organiser, Courtney Bowman, is no stranger to markets. Her mother, Tracey, is an artist and as a youngster Courtney and her siblings would attend markets with their Mum of a weekend, selling her artwork. More recently, Courtney has attended up to five markets a weekend herself with her business, Bella and Lucy - selling affordable fashion for all sizes.
Courtney says, "I have seen the joy that a market brings to the locals and also the connectedness with the local communities and small businesses. Newmarket Creative Markets provides a very relaxed and inviting vibe and we want everyone to experience the warmth that we try to bring to it. We want our market to be the monthly Sunday destination for families in the community and a great place to relax and unwind, whilst showcasing what the Newmarket Bowls Club has to offer."
Courtney and her family have a long association with this bowls club. She held her first job here, her grandfather was house director, her father won several tournaments here and also taught Courtney to drive in what used to be the back paddock of the club. It is hoped that the markets will give this club some exposure and that in the future it will open for barefoot bowls, alongside the market.

Although the first market was small (due, in part, to wet weather), this market has a big heart and 35 stalls are expected to attend the next event, on February 1st. The market is open to fruit and veg producers and local artisans. Jewellery, clothing, children's toys, French crepes, tea blends, homewares, infused oils, chocolate powders, fresh flowers, handmade goods, fruit, veg and more can be found at Newmarket Creative Markets.

The stall that took my eye, though, was Bow Wow Chow. Here I found treats for the four-legged family member that sounded good enough to eat myself and whilst it took me a good 10 minutes to decide what to buy, it took only a heartbeat for it to be devoured by the fur baby!

This market venue is unique and with tables and chairs set up in the shade of old trees it is the perfect place to meet up with neighbours, friends and family. Enjoy a cool drink or a coffee or maybe treat yourself to a crepe. Courtney has spent a considerable amount of time researching what it takes to start a successful market so with the support of the local community and visitors to the area, Newmarket Creative Markets has the potential to grow into a must-do market destination. So come along and enjoy a lazy Sunday morning browsing, stocking up, sipping, tasting and relaxing.
