One of the nicest ways to get fit and get your dose of outdoor mental health is walking and Newcastle has plenty of good walking tracks. Bar beach has the new Anzac walk, a new bridge structure and plenty of foodie stops at the end.

My favourite walk is along Honeysuckle, not only can you walk to the headland, but you often see big ships coming in assisted by tugs, which is quite a spectacle!

Along Honeysuckle is a waterfront pub and a large number of restaurants. If you wish to go further afield, ferry trips from Honeysuckle go to Stockton, where you can walk around relatively flat streets and view a suburb that is time warped and beachy.
