I'm a freelance writer/photographer/filmmaker living in stunning Lake Macquarie. I am always on the look out for budget things to do for large families.

Summertime means hot weather, school holidays and the struggle to find activities to keep the kids amused that do not cost a lot of money. Searching for low-cost activities can be really difficult, especially if you live on a tight budget.

In its 10th year, the "Newcastle Permanent Cinema Under the Stars" Program may be the answer. Acclaimed as the largest free regional outdoor cinema program, the "Newcastle Permanent Cinema Under the Stars" is a fun family friendly FREE event.

Operating from November to February annually, over the last 10 years, the event now includes 16 locations in the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, North Coast, New England and Central West Regions. The list of locations grows every year.
