It's Photo time on the Harbour
Just because the weather has turned cold doesn't mean you still can't enjoy the water. Newcastle Harbour is a beautiful place to visit at any time of year and the photo opportunities are endless, especially at the right time of day.

Catching a coal ship coming in or out of the Harbour is always a spectacular site and the sheer size of these things will have the kids amazed. There are plenty of good vantage points from either the Newcastle or Stockton side of the channel but one of the best spots to pull up is at the car park to Horseshoe Beach.

From here you'll get a great view of the Harbour, Queens Wharf, Stockton Break Wall and Nobbys Headland. Of course Horseshoe Beach is also Newcastle's number one leash-free dog beach, which means your furry friends can also enjoy a day out at the harbour. On any given weekend you'll always find an icecream truck or a coffee van parked up in the car park here to cater for your trek along the beach or the wharf, and the kids will love exploring the rocks for hidden treasures.

There are plenty of places to grab a meal along Queens Wharf that also provide substantial cover from the elements if the weather turns bad as well - most of which will still give you a good view of the harbour while you enjoy your lunch. School holidays are fast approaching and the Harbour and surrounding foreshore is always a hub of activity for the kids turning out amusement rides and entertainment activities of all sorts.

Of course if you just want the perfect photo opportunity of the Harbour simply turn up either early or late in the day, when the sun is low in the sky. You'll get that soft golden light reflecting off the water and no matter what is going on it will certainly make for a peaceful and inspirational moment.
