It may not be a fantasy, but it's a good enough dream
Whether you've been to New York (and fallen in love with it for obvious reasons), or you're craving a slice of the Big Apple - look no further, for there is a joint that is situated minutes away from Semaphore beach.
Aptly named New York Dreams, this place offers some classic options of NY-style street food such as hot dogs, buffalo wings, and nachos, to mention a few. Most of these options come with the gourmet touch and not only sound delicious but look too tempting to eat.
Each item on the menu has a name unique to its origin and is drizzled in rich sauces of mustard, ketchup, or liquid cheese (yes, this is a thing)!
The décor of this place reminds me of an inn in the US, where there are posters of iconic people and license plates with a rustic touch. The joint is simple, with faux leather couches and wooden tables, but the natural lighting from outside and the minimalistic lighting in the form of copper light bulbs gives it a fresh, trendy theme.
My partner and I were visiting Semaphore and decided to grab lunch there while we were adventuring through this side of town. He ordered the New York hot dog, which comes with a smoked hot dog and served with onions, mustard and ketchup. It looked enticing and with the first bite, he was pleased with the aromatic flavours that were coming from the hot dog. There was liquid cheese added to this dish, which further added to the appetizing factor of this meal.
I opted for the cheesy fries with buffalo chicken popcorn. The sauce that the popcorn was drizzled in had a tangy, spicy spin to it and was well cooked to present with an excellent crispiness. The liquid cheese over the fries hit the spot and the fries were soft yet crispy. Definitely not to be enjoyed by just one, this is a great meal to share with friends.
While New York Dreams has copped a lot of mixed reviews on several food blogging platforms, I personally think that the customer service is great, the meals are prepped within a sufficient amount of time, and the joint itself appears to be relaxed and has a 'chilled' vibe. While I feel like the place could do without the creepy hot dog statue outside, New York Dreams does a fine job of pleasing their customers with quality meals and a great atmosphere.
