If you've ever imagined walking around in a fantasy where everything is chocolate (hasn't everyone?) you'll have your chance to do just that at the 13th annual New York Chocolate Show. The event isn't just visually appealing; you'll get to devour samples and, in every area of the show, have the decadent scents taunt and tease you. It's a celebration of the candy that has brought many chocoholics to their knees in a fit of ecstasy.
In 1997, Sylvie Douce and François Jeantet founded The Chocolate Show and it has since grew to become the largest show in the United States that solely focuses on chocolate. This year, in addition to New York, there will be shows in Japan, Paris, Shanghai, Tokyo, Cairo, Moscow and Madrid.
The New York Chocolate Show will feature more than 65 chocolate companies all under one roof. Some of the many exhibitors that are going to be at The New York Chocolate Show include Peanut Butter and Co from New York, William Dean Chocolates from Largo, Florida, Bonnat Chocolatier from Voiron, France and Mary's Chocolates from Tokyo, Japan. In the two culinary theatres, there will also be plenty of demonstrations by top pastry chefs and chocolatiers. Some of those that are expected to give demonstrations include Jacques Torres, Ryan Butler and Barry Callebaut. There will also be book signings, an area just for kids and much more.
As if four days of chocolatey goodness wasn't enough, kicking off the extravaganza is a Chocolate Fashion Show...as in fashion made of chocolate. This year, the theme of the fashion show is Green where all of the designs are inspired by ecology or nature. Please restrain yourself from trying to eat the creations or trying to bite the models wearing the designs. Sitting there with chocolate around your mouth while you deny you ate the candy didn't work when you were a kid and it's not going to work now.
The New York Chocolate Fashion Show takes place on Wednesday, November 10th from 6:30p to 9:30p. The 13th annual chocolate show takes place in New York City from November 11th to November 14th, 2010 at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Thursday, Friday and Saturday it is from 10am to 7pm and Sunday is 10am to 6pm.
You can purchase tickets for The New York Chocolate Show in advance or at the door. For adults, age 13 and up, tickets purchased in advance are $28.00 each and $30.00 at the door. Children ages 5 to 12 are free with a limit of two children per adult and each additional child is $8.00. Kids four and younger are free. A separate ticket purchase is required for The New York Chocolate Fashion Show. Each ticket is $150 per person.
The New York Chocolate Show is an adults equivalent of a child's candy store, but much more decadent. If you're on a diet, you may want to put it aside for a few days. You won't regret it. For more information and to order tickets, you can check out their
