I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami www.weekendnotes.com/origami-classes-japan-australia-friendship-association/ and Pokémon www.weekendnotes.com/pokemon-center-tokyo/

One of the restaurants that is part of the Westfield Marion Shopping Centre, New York Bar & Grill specialises in offering café-style food that primarily focuses on American style cuisine. A playground is located within the restaurant to keep your kids occupied while waiting for your order to arrive.

A great option for those desiring seafood, the Seafood Trio consists of a combination of Ale Battered Fish, Salt & Pepper Squid and Panko Prawns. The flesh of the Ale Battered Fish easily flaked apart with a fork and was complemented nicely by the light and crisp batter. Both the Panko Prawns and Salt & Pepper Squid were also fried to golden brown, with the squid having the right amount of salt and pepper flavour. Accompanying the seafood were chips, salad and tartare sauce. We particularly liked the tangy flavour of the dressing used to dress the salad.

While the slices of corned beef in the Reuben Sandwich were quite thick, they actually were not too tough. The sharp taste of the sauerkraut and mustard dressing partnered wonderfully with the beef and the rye bread was not too chewy. Served with the sandwich were dill pickles as a side.

The frankfurter in the New York Hot Dog had the degree of smoky flavour we liked, with sauerkraut and mustard imparting a delectable tangy flavour. Balancing things out were capsicum & onion relish and tomato ketchup. It normally comes with cheese but we were able to have it omitted since my father is not a fan of cheese. Similar to the Seafood Trio, the Hot Dog came with a serving of chips.

A good way to finish your meal or as a light snack, their cakes can be ordered as a combo deal with a cup of coffee. The Caramel Cheesecake we chose did not taste too cheesy and the caramel topping was flavoursome. Chocolate bits were scattered over the cheesecake for a bit of crunch and the base was not too hard. It was particularly great eaten together with the whipped cream.

The décor of the restaurant gave it a relaxed feel. Its location makes it a perfect place for shoppers or moviegoers looking for a convenient place to enjoy a delicious meal.
