Each year, in cooperation with the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of New York, an AIDS Walk is held. The 2011 New York AIDS Walk is scheduled for Sunday, May 15th.
The walk is held in Central Park, so even though it is being held to raise awareness for a serious disease, participants can still enjoy the beautiful spring weather and sights and sounds that make Central Park one of New York City's most popular attractions.
Sign-in for the AIDS Walk begins at 8:30 AM. At 9:00 AM, participants can start stretching and warming up. A brief opening ceremony will be held at 9:15 AM, and the AIDS Walk itself will begin at 10:00 AM.
At 12:30 PM, there will be a concert, as well as speeches from different people concerning AIDS and the progress that has been made in the fight against this disease. More importantly, there will be personal testimonials from AIDS sufferers themselves, telling how the funds raised are helping them.
At 3:00 PM, the announcement of how much was raised for the 2011 campaign will be announced. This is when all participants get to cheer and make noise to celebrate the generosity of those who have donated to this cause.
