Okay, so it's the time of year, when we all vow to become fitter, lose a spare tyre and be healthier. Motivation can wane so the best thing to do is start now by entering some fun runs and start training. No one wants to finish last.
Some of these are much more about the fun than the run, so if you are just wanting to give a fun run a go then these are heaps of fun and still a run.
Cupids Undie Run on Sun 9th of Feb is only 1.5km so anyone can do it, the catch is is that you have to do it in your undies. That's surely motivation enough to skip the Christmas pudding. Check out their website here for more details.
Neon Run is a combination of disco music, neon lights and running.This 5km run is on the 22nd of Feb and is sure to be a fun evening. Neon Run events are hugely popular overseas and have found their way to the land downunder. Check out all the info here.
Color Run needs no introduction at all with the popularity of colour runs around the world. There are no winners or prizes just a fun event to turn you into a multi coloured runner in a sea of other multi coloured runners. The 5km run will be held at Albert Park on the 2nd of March. Tough Blokes Challenge is not just for blokes they also have the tough chicks challenge. It's an event over a 5km obstacle course with ropes, mud, climbing obstacles and is sure to get you dirty. Find out more about the challenge here.
Great beachside fun runs to keep you going on holiday.
Point Nepean Twilight Run is one of the most spectacular coastal runs around. Choose between the 7.75km or 3.75km option. Entries are available on the day but are cheaper online.
Australia Day Fun Run from Safety beach to Rosebud is a nice flat 10km course that is a perfect way of celebrating Australia Day ( Jan 26th ) entries are $35 and includes a finisher's medal. There is also a 5.3km option. For more info click here.
Bells Beach Cliff Run is on the 3rd of January and comes in 3 different lengths, you can choose between an 8km or 4km run/walk and for the kids/ family there is a 1.5km event. A great spot to get out for a run, see here for more info.
If you prefer getting back to nature and enjoy trail running then there are heaps of great runs coming up.
Two Bays Challenge on January 12th has an option of 28km or 56km. You need to qualify for this event with a half marathon time of 2:15 or under but it's a fantastic course that will challenge the best runners. Limited spots remain, click here to view details.
Mt Buller Sky Run sounds like great fun and I can't wait to give this one a go. The Sky Run is on the 2nd of Feb and has three distances 22/36/45km. Also on the day before is the Vertical K and family fun run. Get in quick before all the spots are filled, click here.
Warburton Up and Running offers plenty of options for those getting into trail running with a 5km walk, 2/5/10km run on a mostly flat and undulating course. Check out the fine print here.
Fun runs in and around the city are plentiful all year round hear are just a few to choose from.
Brazilian Butterfly Queen of the Lake at Albert Park offers a 5km or 10km option and will be held on Sat 9th of Feb. For more info check out their website here.
Yarra Bend Fun Run on Sunday 16th is held by the Victorian Road Runners club, you don't need to be a member to enter the runs. Choose between one lap or two of this scenic 6km circuit. Entry is at a bargain rate of $16 for non members. Entry can be done here. The Sunset Series is a three race series that has two distances of 4km or 8km to choose from and is held in different Melbourne locations. The first is on Wed 5th Feb at Melbourne Zoo, Wed 19th at the Tan and Wed 5th March at Princes Park. Find out more here.
