The movie Suffragette is no walk in the park so it's interesting that Regal Theatre have selected this movie to feature for its New Year's Eve Movie Night.

Maybe Regal Theatre have chosen Suffragette to give us cause to reflect on where we have come from and what we've achieved, along with what more can be achieved in a society which values human rights.

Based on true events and set in London, Suffragette is written by Abi Morgan (Iron Lady) and directed by Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) and stars Carrie Mulligan as Maud Watts - a laundry worker who joins the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) led by founder Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep), crusading for the right to vote.

In any case, this should be a great way to see in the New Year - hosted by Carole Whitelock (formerly of ABC Local Radio): tickets are $35 per person, including drinks and nibbles from 9pm, with the movie Suffragette commencing at 10pm, followed by the New Year's Eve midnight countdown and fireworks on the big screen.
