While there are hundreds of choices of things to do on New Year's Eve in Melbourne, there's not so many available that welcome the whole family. If you're looking for a way to celebrate where you can take the kids along, here are a few suggestions.

FIREWORKS

**Early Evening Fireworks
**
At Yarra Park and also at Footscray Park the fireworks will be on at the family-friendly time of 9.30pm. Music, dance, food and entertainment are on offer, see here for details of what's on at each venue. Geelong also has family-friendly timed between fireworks between 9-9.30pm as well as a midnight display.

**Midnight Fireworks
**
If the kids are old enough to stay up late, then the city's midnight fireworks are a pretty spectacular experience. Be prepared for large crowds though as the fireworks are incredibly popular.

The City of Melbourne is putting on its usual extravaganza of fireworks from four sites: Treasury Gardens , Kings Domain , Flagstaff Gardens and Docklands .

Public transport is free from 6.00pm on New Year's Eve see here for full details.

For a less crowded option, pack a picnic and head for one of the places where you can see the city skyline. Options include:

Yarra Boulevard, Kew
Ruckers Hill, Northcote
The Strand, Williamstown
Maribyrnong riverside
Footscray riverside
Green Point, Brighton Beach
Mount Dandenong
Mount Macedon

It's worth noting that anywhere from which you have a good view of the city buildings will provide a view of the fireworks.

FEDERATION SQUARE

It's all about colour and neon lights at Federation Square on New Year's Eve. A full program of multicultural music and dance starts at 8pm.
DRIVE IN TO NYE

Dromana Drive In is offering a choice of several double movie features with ratings ranging from G and PG to M plus a break at midnight for fireworks. And yes, they have popcorn, choctops, coffee, milkshakes, hamburgers, hot dogs and and whole range of other eats. See their website for more details.
GET LOST

Boneo Maze and Mini Golf is offering a kids' New Year's Eve with fairies and goblins in the night gardens, music, balloons, a magician and lots more. Bookings are essential, see their website for full details.
CELEBRATE AND EAT CHOCOLATE

Tribe's NYE Drug & Alcohol Free Raw Cacao Party for all ages is on again in Collingwood. See here for more information and bookings.

SWEET MUSIC

The Australian Philharmonic and Pops Orchestra will be holding two concerts on New Year's Eve, one at 2pm and one at 8pm. Joining them will be Kate Cerebano, Mark Vincent, Denis Walter and more. See their website for full details.
HIGH TEA

Treat the littlies to a late morning or early afternoon Smurf's High Tea session at the Langham Hotel in Southbank. A great opportunity to dress up and enjoy smurf-themed edible goodies.
JUST FOR FUN

Luna Park is open on New Year's Eve until 6pm. Exhaust the kids and then finish up with a picnic or fish and chips at St Kilda Beach.

It's a good idea to check the website of the event you want to attend before setting out just in case there are any weather, time or venue changes at the last minute.

Should you know of any other great places to celebrate New Year's Eve with the kids, please share!

Most of all, have a happy and safe New Year's Eve and 2015!
