Baby, you're a firework, come and let your colours burst
Magnetic Island is the perfect holiday destination, year round. With idyllic weather, secluded beaches, and adventure abounding, this relaxing island in the far north is a well-loved hub for travellers and locals alike. But don't be fooled by that laid-back vibe, because "Maggie" also knows how to party!

Magnetic Island has always attracted ample visitors to her shores to celebrate New Year's Eve. Nothing says "let's party" more than waves crashing on the beach, a full moon, and the silhouettes of a few hundred beautiful bodies dancing in the sand! Here's a list of parties, from the wild to the sophisticated to the low-key, to add to your calendar:
'Hello Sunshine' Party @ Base Backpackers
IMHO the best way to celebrate the coming year is with a blowout beach party. And year after year Magnetic Island's Base Backpackers delivers the magic.
Tucked between Picnic Bay and Nelly Bay, the organisers of the Full Moon Down Under will be hosting the Hello Sunshine Island Party on December 31st. It's going to be pretty epic this year with a swag of talented Aussie artist's performing, including Hayden James, Enschway, Kuren, and J Heasy. There will also be a few local artists in the mix.
Hello Sunshine is a strictly adults only party and is not for the faint-hearted... Be ready to party from dusk till dawn! Tickets start from $35. To really live the experience you can purchase VIP tix, which will give you VIP entry, a great food and beverage package, a meet and greet with the artists, and your own personal VIP area to hang in. Sounds pretty awesome to me!
Celebrate New Year's Eve in Style @ Peppers Blue on Blue - Nelly Bay
For those who prefer a touch of class, and a glass of bubbly, Peppers Blue on Blue Resort will treat you fine. With sweeping vistas over the marina, live music, and scintillating conversation (BYO on the latter) it's bound to be a memorable finale to 2016.
Devour delectable cocktails and enjoy the delights of the buffet while taking in tunes from songstress Sera-Jane Moore, at the Boardwalk Restaurant and Bar. It's an air-conditioned venue too, so you will be able to beat the tropical heat, and will have the best view on the island for the fireworks!
Your dinner will include a cocktail, beer or wine. There will be a special menu for the kids, which comes with an activity pack to keep them engaged!
Adult tickets for the evening are $125. Children are welcomed at Peppers, and for those under 12 the price is $45. Tables are available from 7:15pm. Head to their website to secure your booking.
The countdown will be on in Nelly Bay with fireworks at midnight at the Nelly Bay Breakwall area - near the 'Eye To The Sky' sculpture. The best views will be from the Peppers Blue on Blue deck, the boat ramp car park, the northern end of Nelly Bay beach, and the Magnetic Harbour Marina.
Other Parties on the Island
In Picnic Bay, you will be able to see the fireworks from Townsville while enjoying live music till late at the Picnic Bay Hotel. Food will be served in the public bar and in the R&R restaurant. Take a stroll down the old jetty and enjoy the celebrations from this cruisey little bay.
At the Arcadia Village Hotel, on Geoffrey Bay and Alma Bay, there will be live music starting from 8pm, and food served from 5pm. Entry is free.
Horseshoe Bay will be alive with revellers partying at the Marlin Bar and Sandi's on Magnetic Island. Both will have live music. Sandi's will have a selection of tapas and a full dinner menu from 6pm.
Another party option is to rent a nice apartment and have drinks with friends, walk on the beach, and watch the fireworks together at midnight. Sweet and simple.
Whatever choice you make, if you happen to be on Magnetic Island, it will be sure to be a special end to 2016 and beginning to 2017. Happy New Year Everybody!
