The Royal Botanic Gardens, with prime views of Sydney Harbour, welcomes in the New Year with a new event this year – Harbour Hoopla. It's going to be a fun night for family and friends with a vintage circus theme.

There will be plenty to keep partygoers entertained all night. Fun fair alley games, circus performers, circus workshops and fortune tellers will have you enthralled and a live DJ will amp up the vibe further with electro-swing style music whilst you wait for the fabulous fireworks that Sydney is known for. A theatrical photo booth will capture memories of the event. You can dress in theme or borrow props from the booth and make some magic.

This is a ticketed event with all proceeds supporting the works of the gardens' science, horticulture and conservation projects. A gourmet hamper is included from Trippas White and comes in a picnic box with fresh salad entrees, a poached chicken main, a decadent dessert and a cheese plate to finish. A bottle of water is also included. Vegetarian hampers are available as well. The exact contents can be seen on the website . Collect it on entry to the event site.

Held on the elevated Tarpeian Lawn, your ticket price of $295 per person (plus booking fee) includes exclusive access to all of the above. Drinks (other than water) are not included. A cash bar is available with a selection of beverages and snacks for sale. It's on from 6.00pm to 1.30am with entry via Macquarie Street. The event will proceed no matter the weather. Last entry is at 8pm. Hurry and get your tickets before they sell out and check out what you can and can't bring here under FAQ.

Will running away with the circus be your NYE resolution?

Either way, throw the picnic rug down, shake the sequins and enjoy the night. Don't forget to catch the thrilling air displays that take over the skies, the fire tugs creating striking water displays and the Harbour of Light Parade. As per usual, fireworks are at 9pm and midnight and you'll also get to hear the broadcast of them synchronised to music.
