It's a bold proclamation, but as a resident since 2016, I'd have to say there's never been a more exciting time to live in Wynnum. The bayside suburb 'where Brisbane ends' (you can't go further east than the shores of Moreton Bay) has undergone a massive renaissance in years past.

What previously was a downtown area with 'potential' — I can't tell you how many times that word got thrown around, is now potential that is being thankfully realised. New cinemas, a fringe festival , a bayside music hall , craft brewers are just some of the major recent entertainment additions to the local scene, before you even mention the suburb's obvious drawcard, the 7 kilometre foreshore and recreation esplanade.

The end of 2022 is no exception to exciting new developments and is shaping add to the suburb's popularity with a bevy of new venues (where as luck would have it, you can also grab many a bevvie) that are opening imminently.

1. Hajime Japanese
At the ground level of Enclave, one of the recently completed residential complexes along the main drag of Bay Terrace, Haijime (meaning to begin) is a Japanese eatery offering beers on tap, Japanese street food, sushi, and delectable hot bites plated up with the flair and attention to detail that Japanese hospitality typically excels at. While the full menu and the official opening haven't been announced, according to their Facebook page, the restaurant will stage a soft opening from the week beginning, 10th October, 2022. Hajime is located at Cnr Charlotte and Bay Terrace

2. Munja Pizza

Wood fired Pizza hits different, and if the beautiful mosaic tiled Pizza kiln installed at 82b Bay Terrace (the old pizza capers site) is anything to go by, the team at Munja will be firing out creations as beautiful as their harlequin tiled oven. Created in the style of true Napoli pizzerias, where 'the base stands as the hero', and simplicity and rustic flavours will no doubt reign supreme. Also on offer are sweet and savoury 'logs' — wood fired bread with choc banana filling or cheesy garlic goodness. The venue will offer alfresco seating for 30 diners and occupies a prime spot in the heart of Wynnum, and is also in the process of applying for a liquor license. Munja Pizza is expected to open mid OctoberMunja is located at 82b Bay Terrace

3. Adelita Wine Bar With the success of Tide on the Jetty (formerly Tide Wine Bar) in neighbouring Manly, there's no doubt there was a demand for Wynnum to have its own hallowed wine hall. The credentials behind the shopfitters and owner are impressive - with a resume of co founding Monocle Coffee, and Bulimba's Melrose, and fit outs Opa Bar and Mezza and Massimo Restaurant and Bar in Eagle St respectively. The set-to-be emerald green themed Adelita, named after the owner's grandmother, will offer a wine list of more than 80 wines (including a house red and wine on Tap) and occupies the ground floor tenancy overlooking Greene Park and Wynnum Creek. The kitchen will create a range of small and larger share plates featuring modern Australian ingredients. Adelita is set to open mid November. Adelita is located on the corner of Fox and Glenora Streets

4. D&W Republic

Catering to a younger crowd, lounge D&W Republic occupies the former Westpac Bank at the top end of Edith Street and continues the gentrification of the strip. With an urbane fit out, booths, high tables, and a dance floor this is set to be a much needed night spot for people looking to go where the music is, and will be sure to open when the others are not. The venue will also offer food made to order prepared off-site at a nearby 'dark kitchen' through a QR ordering system. Details of an exact opening are scant, but D&W Republic is due to open before the end of the year. D&W Republic is located at 64 Edith Street

5. Miss Mexicana

Okay so this one has technically already opened for a few months now, but Miss Mexicana definitely fits the bill for an exciting new opening, and the multi level venue has it all - the formal Mexican restaurant upstairs, and the bar at the street level with indoor and outdoor seating options. Who doesn't like the fun and frivolity of Mexican? Margies, chimichangas, guac, and all the nachos hit me please! Miss Mexicana has all the dishes you'd expect but also some of the more traditional and less familiar, including Pescado a la Tala (grilled Barramundi in lime and parsley sauce) and Carne Asada — a marinated chargrilled rump, with pico de gallo, rice, beans and salsa verdeWith intense orange walls, Frida Kahlo cushions and cacti pots adorning walls and crannies everywhere, the cocktail menu is also impressive, with Miss Mexicana open to midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. Miss Mexicana is open now and at 3/89 Bay Terrace
