There are VIP events and then there are 'Very Important People' events with panache. This lovely evening at LUMAS Gallery was the latter in spades. The gallery's team invited over 30 prior buyers, with LUMAS Art already gracing their walls, as well as potential new buyers. It was an awe-inspiring art show with 28 artworks from around the world brought into one stunning space for breathtaking viewing. The gallery is unusually styled like a home to allow you to envision the potential spot for your new prized possession and how it will tie into your decor. Ever thought of art in the kitchen?

It was an honour to be invited, greeted as if family, bubbles offered before you could even ask, and every question you asked answered with an incredible depth of knowledge by the gallery resident experts, with such personalised service.

I was able to speak to the Managing Director, Eugenia Wilson and other senior staff and patrons. I quickly gained the impression patrons love their LUMAS artworks so much they were back on the VIP night on Thursday, to find something new to add to their collection. One lovely lady even admitted she would rotate her artwork just to be able to add a new piece to her walls.

As well as this VIP night, LUMAS is holding Birthday Celebrations and a Grand Opening for the new Collection on 31 July 2021 and they are expecting over 100 at that celebration. Contact the gallery for details at 03 9421 3525

But what is LUMAS and what makes it distinctively different? With one step into the gallery, it is obvious the artworks are "Luminescent". They shine.

Photography has always had a place on our walls and in the art world. LUMAS takes photography to a completely new level. Some pieces add the addition of collage work at its highest intricacy. LUMAS and their artists turn photography into fine art. Some of the photo collages seem to have hundreds of delicate layers. And they take the artists months to create.

The pieces on display are large scale and the depth of colour is astounding. Each surface seems to be shiny and reflective but with no glare. Fascinating. These artworks turn dark spaces into light, bright, airy, translucent views to extraordinary gardens, water views, sky views, sea views, or cityscapes. It brings the outside world into your home with breathtaking results.

What an innovative way to get rid of that horrible wall outside your window. A cityscape, garden view or views of Venice, make ugly concrete disappear into an extended alfresco space of outstanding ambience within even the smallest space. The building next door just becomes a natural frame.

You can order 3 standard sizes on the very flash, LUMAS website at
www.lumas.com .

But the Managing Director, Eugenia says they can sometimes create a designer scale for your home, your wall, your living space but stresses that is an additional cost. Well worth it for the perfect art in the perfect space. I also noted that they are featured in major glam magazines such as Vogue and Elle. Notable clients were multi-million dollar companies such as Porsche, SAP and Four Seasons. Top shelf indeed.

It seems service is a top priority for LUMAS. She says "We take it to the next level as we allow our customers to customise the finishes, the framing, we are not set to one size or one finish. They can really make it their own".

This website gives you access to a massive database of artists and artworks from LUMAS Galleries around the world. There are over 25 LUMAS galleries in cities such as Berlin, Cologne, Düsse ldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, London, Munich, New York, Paris, Vienna, and Zurich and they feature over 3000 works and over 250 up and coming artists.

One patron said, she had hers in a tiny alcove with comfy chairs and her friends rave about the space and how relaxing and gracious it is. It is her "go-to" space to relax, to unwind and extend her mind into the stunning view it creates.

These are limited editions so they increase in value over time after you buy them. Serious collectors will want to add a LUMAS to their collection. The one I fell in love with has only one other edition in Australia.

What is even better, they are affordable ranging from miniatures up to full wall scale statement pieces with the wow factor. Your selection will be the focal point of your room. If you desire to take your guests breath away, entice them to come around more often and be a wee bit jealous then that artwork is at LUMAS. They can own one too with this Melbourne Gallery, so local in Richmond.

According to their FREE regular magazine "%%The founders of LUMAS, Stefanie Harig and Marc Alexander Ullrich,
are enthusiastic art collectors. With LUMAS, these experienced
entrepreneurs turned that passion into a profession. Their goal was to make high-quality art affordable for a wider audience
of art enthusiasts including new collectors. For those looking for affordable yet authentic art. There is a big gap in the market. LUMAS was created to close that gap and create a new space for art that speaks to all art enthusiasts%%."

I was able to get a wee bit of time from several people at the event, especially Managing Director Eugenia Wilson. This was a revealing interview. Eugenia explained, "LUMAS have been around 18 to 19 years globally and here in Melbourne, Australia for the last 6 years and this is a celebration of our 6th Birthday with this new collection. So happy birthday to us." When I asked about the founders the Eugenia stated "Stefanie and Marc were long term collectors who looked around the world for beautiful artworks and couldn't find anything affordable, so they came up with the idea of offering limited edition artworks. So instead of offering one large scale artwork at exclusive and very expensive prices, why not offer one of 20 or 50 limited editions so more people could afford art. And the dream was born."

Eugenia is very young and passionate about LUMAS, but what Eugenia said next astounded me and immediately made me realise I was in the presence of a true entrepreneur. When I asked her about her journey, she said, "I was a lawyer for 10 years, but then realised I needed a change. I saw LUMAS in Germany and I asked them if LUMAS wanted to come to Australia and they did and here we are 6 years later. It was scary but my husband was very supportive". Very impressive MD indeed. Understandably she was in demand at the event, so I moved on to others.

One Patron, Janet Heritage, said, "We live in an apartment and have very large windows but very small walls. So they asked us to bring pictures in of our areas. And they have access to so many stunning works worldwide they were able to find two perfect artworks to hang side by side. And I didn't realise this at the time, but as numbered editions, they go up in value and you can't lose, you are on a winner. We are even thinking about the ceiling now."

Not as crazy as it seems; dentists have been sticking TVs on the ceiling for years. And it is usually trash TV which I ask to be switched off. Artwork from LUMAS would be so much more tranquil. Masseurs might think along these lines as well. Plus it is a long term investment.

I then had a chance to interview Eliza, their Art Consultant who works with the customers and art designers to create the perfect art space within a home. She started studies in history, evolved into art history and extended to a Masters in Art Curatorship. She loves bringing those skills together to help their clients. I asked her how COVID was affecting the gallery, Eliza said "People are now looking at artworks through a digital lens and we have a virtual gallery now. Eugenia, our MD, launched this successful virtual gallery along with Instagram and social media."

When we are in lockdown in tiny apartments with no balconies and no backyards, these artworks can bring peaceful ambience indoors and open up home spaces. So wonderful for our mental health. Many have that 3D feel and you keep noticing more and more layers.

Finally, I was able to speak to the Gallery Assistant Manager, Vanessa. She has spent exclusive time, over an hour, understanding two VIP patrons needs.

Vanessa's love of art started at age 12 when she was sent to her bedroom for being naughty. Her response, "Fine I am going to draw."

That journey continued and she now has extensive qualifications including a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Fashion and degree in Studio Textiles. She just loves to extend her skills. At LUMAS her focus is managing the team and the day to day running of the gallery and has been for the last two years. That expertise includes helping customers explore their tastes and matching their style to 3000 possible artworks.

She says, "At each exhibition, we put together 20 to 30 different styles to give people a taste of what we have and how it would fit in their lives." Apparently, it takes over 3 months to put together an exhibition that runs for about 8 weeks. True dedication from a very skilled team.

I cannot wait to be back for the 31 July 2021 for LUMAS 6th Birthday celebrations, dragging my husband so he can enjoy this fab exhibition!
