Plenty of animated movies to choose from this season
The new round of children's movie entertainment for the holidays and to the end of year has arrived. Once again we are saturated with a host of animated characters, with some sexist and questionable storylines all with messages being sent to your children. There are some good suitable films out there also, with the task to choose the best ones. Please learn about the film before you decide to go. Read the reviews and decide whether they are the best way to entertain your kids. For more information on children's films see the children''s media council website here. They have lots of information including parent guides and movie reviews.
NUT JOB 2- Nutty By Nature A sequel to the Nut Job movie, this one is not the best digital animation to come on the screen but little kids will enjoy the cute fluffy animals. Probably more suited to the under 8 year olds. Don't expect too much.
THE EMOJI MOVIE Kids seem to love the emoji characters. This movie has a good message of self-esteem. It would be the blockbuster animated flick out at present and probably on all kids wish list to see it.
The Emoji Movie will be one all kids will want to see these holidays. Image by sites.sonypictures.com/emojimovie, official movie website
There are a lot of Japanese anime films about at present. This one has two boys who have a competition between themselves. The prize to the winner will be to take the girl they like to the fireworks. This is sending terrible messages of a female is a trophy. I would avoid it.
SHOPKINS WORLD VACATION The 'Shoppies' are a new breed of cutesy animated characters invented to teach kids about consumerism. All they want to do is shop, and this time while on holidays. Expect a host of merchandise to hit the stores for Christmas.
CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: The First Epic Movie I'm sure every kid has drawn funny picture of their teachers at some time. It is funny until you get caught. Two boys hypnotise their school principal and turn him into their comic book character. A film full of schoolyard toilet humour that kids can relate to and consider hilarious.
This movie will be a hoot. Image from en.wikipedia.org
SON OF BIGFOOT An animated film of a boy estranged from his father. He sets off to go and find him and when he does he discovers he is actually the mythical Bigfoot. He is in hiding because the corporations want to put him on show and make money of course. It's got a likeable monster and emotion, all traits of a good children's story. It's like King Kong for kids and looks like a movie that kids will enjoy.
THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE Lego Ninja warriors and plenty of action. The boys will love this one. And no I am not being sexist. Boys and girls do like different things. I laughed out loud at the antics and dialogue of the funny Lego characters in the Lego Batman movie, and kids loved it. Give it a try as this third release in the series ought to be a big seller at the box office.
POKEMON – THE MOVIE Release Date- November 5 The worldwide phenomenon is now a movie. I expect many adults will want to see this one also. Take your kids, nieces and nephews for your excuse to see this movie. This is an anime Japanese movie creation.
WONDER Release Date November 17 And now for something completely different. This is a drama starring Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts. They are parents of a child with a facial deformity. He is a gutsy kid out to prove to his new schoolmates that there is more to us than the way we look. With the shocking problems with bullying in schools at present, this film comes at an important time. It would only be suitable to say over 8-year-olds, who can deal with the emotions of this film. Go somewhere after the film and have a good discussion about it together as a family.
