You can't call yourself a true Brisbanite or picnic connoisseur until you've had a picnic at New Farm Park. Not being from Brisbane myself I can clearly remember my first time venturing into New Farm Park and since then I can say it has become a bit of a tradition amongst my friends and me.
If you are like me and like picnicking more than you like actually hiking to a great picnic spot then you will be glad to know that there is a road and a car park that runs throughout the grounds. Which is really great because the gardens and park lands do cover a massive amount of space, the park itself extends all the way down to the Brisbane River. So you're able to park next to where you plan to set up "camp". Not to mention that if you do forget something or were a bit lazy with the packed lunch you'll find many cafes and shops just a couple of minutes walk away.
One of the first things you'll notice when you first step out of the car is the atmospheres of the park, you can almost feel a buzz of happiness from your fellow picnickers as they enjoy a lazy day in the sun with their friends or family.
So whether you want to make your own fun or just relax, there are many different activities and sports to watch if you're more the spectator type. A huge adventure playground for kids of all ages, beautiful gardens and enough space to throw a Frisbee, fly a kite, kick the footy around or just relax by yourself with a book are just some of the reasons to put New Farm Park on your to do list.
