Movies have the power to transport you to another place; to get lost in its story for a while, and what better time to binge-watch than now, when you're in isolation. Thank goodness for Netflix , which is what I have. At a cent shy of $10 a month, it's worth it to me. I watch all genres, but horror, however, that's not to say I've not watched a few in company, with my hand over my eyes, peering through the cracks of my fingers.

Netflix rotates its movies on a regular basis. I love Australian films and there's just not enough on Netflix, whilst Indian and Korean movies flood the steam. Luckily, I love foreign sub-titled films as well but would love to see an equal volume of European films too. From the list of current Australian and other films on Netflix, I've enjoyed the following.

  • Oddball - family: an eccentric farmer and his mischievous dog Oddball protect a penguin sanctuary and save their seaside town. Starring the beloved Shane Jacobson.
  • Paper Planes - family: a young boy's passion for flight and his challenge to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan. Starring Sam Worthington and young Ed Oxenbould. One of those feel-good, uplifting movies.
  • Adoration - definitely for adults: stars Naomi Watts and Robin Wright. A strangely mesmerising film about a pair of childhood friends and neighbours falling for each other's sons.
  • Offspring - series: how could you not fall in love with this eccentric and fabulously messy family. Starring Asher Keddie and Kat Stewart amongst other greats.

  • Obviously, as a movie buff, I've watched far more than I've listed. This is just from what's currently available on Netflix. I'm a bit hesitant about series, as I hate having to wait months for its continuation. However, there are some short series that complete the story in 4 to 16 episodes, but not necessarily what I've listed.

  • Jane the Virgin - can't go past this delightfully comedic series about a young devout Catholic woman who discovers she was accidentally artificially inseminated. Luckily it has all the episodes of the complete series now.
  • Outlander] - definitely for the adults with some strong sex scenes; but what a series! Thank goodness it's complete so you can watch it from start to finish. It's tough to not stay up till all hours of the morning when you get hooked into this one, and the same with Jane the Virgin. In this one, an English combat nurse from 1945 is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, and you just have to watch this for yourself!
  • Unbelievable starring Kaitlyn Dever and Aussie, Toni Collette was a recent watch and thoroughly engaging. It's based on the true story of Marie, a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who followed the path to the truth.
  • Gotham - I'm a superhero movie buff, so you can't tear me away from them, and I loved this origin series, much like I liked Smallville . I'm over it now, but there are others like Glee%% that can be enjoyable for the music lovers, plus it's got good content to go with it.

  • There are many docos to watch, but one I recently enjoyed was Streetfood . Delicious Asian food, sumptuous cooking and gorgeous stories behind each cook. I'm not a repeat watcher, but the choices on television can be dismal, and many aired repeatedly in a short space of time. Hence I fall back on a few favourites I'm a fan of. I love a wide range of films including animated, kiddies and teen movies.

I'll watch anything with The Rock, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Robert Downey Jnr, Mark Wahlberg, Gerard Butler; mmm did I leave anyone out. These actors have their particular stamp that's hard for me to resist, good or bad. I love all the sequels and prequels like Jack Reacher and Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise, the Ironman and Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jnr, Die Hard with Bruce Willis, Lethal Weapon films with Mel Gibson, the Journey to the Center of the Earth with Brendan Fraser, Transformers with both Mark Wahlberg and Shia LaBeouf and so on.

As an adult, there are many animated, kids and teen movies I enjoy as well. It's always good to keep the kid inside alive and well!

  • The Christmas Chronicles was not a soppy Christmas tale for a change with siblings hoping to catch Santa on camera and ending up on an unexpected journey that you could only dream about.
  • Evan Almighty - Steve Carell's brand of humour can be hard to resist as God changes him when he instructs him to build an ark in preparation for a great flood. As an aside, Date Night is another hilarious movie he's in.
  • Hotel Transylvania is another favourite of many animated films I love. Dracula goes into overprotective mode when a human boy falls for the count's teenage daughter.
  • Brave has the beautiful red haired Princess Merida bucking the system and righting the chaos she has caused. Much like The Croods and How to Train Your Dragon , these animated films are full of warmth and heart.
  • Mirror Mirror is a fun Snow White related film with the evil Queen not as evil as her counterpart, Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman , which also stars the rather handsome Chris Hemsworth.
  • A Cinderella Story - another fairytale based tale being told, a young teen (Hilary Duff) is excited about the prospect of meeting her internet beau for real.
  • Wonder was based on a NY Times bestseller and is incredibly heartwarming. The story of August Pullman, a boy with facial disfiguration who has to don courage and bravado to attend mainstream elementary school for the first time.
  • Blended has Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore together again (they were also in another fun and touching 50 First Dates ) as single parents stuck at a resort for families after a first date that didn't go down very well.
  • To all the boys I've loved before - started watching it as I'd seen the main actor Noah Centineo in another teen movie before and enjoyed it. A teenage girl's secret love letters are leaked and put her in embarrassing situations.
  • What a Girl Wants - another teen 'tween enjoyable film about an American teenager trying to fit in with her wealthy British politician father who has just come back into her life.
  • The Kissing Booth - oh those high school crushes! This one has to confront her secret crush at a kissing booth.
  • Transformers - who doesn't love this series of films! OK, you can put your hands down!

  • Some of the foreign films I've loved recently are as follows and yes, some of the acting etcetera are a bit over the top or whatever, but that's the whole point of watching a foreign film. It's interesting to see what goes and to open up and enjoy the differences of another culture. Of course, there are many other fantastic films, but this is from just what's current on Netflix.

  • Lagaan - A small village in Victorian India stake their future on a game of cricket.
  • Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo - whoa, I'm surprised Netflix had this Indian title. Quite a fun one about a baby switch between a jealous clerk and his millionaire friend.
  • The Empress Ki - I was hooked on this one series, but with 105 episodes! OMG! A Korean warrior girl, masquerading as a boy to stay safe and then goes on to become an Empress.
  • Tootsies & The Fake - a completely hilarious oddball Thai movie you'd probably hate, but I couldn't stop laughing. I dare you to check it out.
  • Panipat is based on the 3rd battle of Panipat which took place in 1761 between the Marathas and the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali.
  • Miracle in Cell no.7 - a Turkish film based on a 2013 Korean movie about a wrongly accused (of murder) mentally challenged father and his love for his six-year-old daughter. This actor will tug at your heartstrings.
  • The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind - directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, it's based on a true story about a 13-year-old boy who against all odds invents an unconventional way to save his family and the village from famine in Malawi.

  • Oops, I'm reaching my limit in article length here, so I'm just going to list the following for you to check out. It includes all kinds of favourites like Clint Eastwood directed and produced movies eg. Grand Torino , always a good watch; and others he's simply starred in like Trouble with the Curve ; some new, golden oldies, feel good favourites, some silly, funny and more. Feel free to comment with any you think are wonderful which I may have seen but others may have not, and may no longer be on Netflix.

Aquaman, A Quiet Place, Blood Diamond, Bourne & sequels, Coach Carter, Crazy Rich Asians, Double Jeopardy, Dumpling, Gifted, Indiana Jones et al, Inside Man, Into the Wild, Labor Day, Life as We Know It, London Has Fallen, Mamma Mia, Merlin & sequels, New Years Eve, Noah, Olympus Has Fallen, Patriots Day, Planet of the Apes, Practical Magic, Red Riding Hood, San Andreas, Seven Pounds, Shooter, Skyscraper, Snitch, Snowpiercer, Spenser Confidential, Spiderman et al, Suicide Squad, Tarzan, The Big Sick, The Dark Tower, The Equalizer, The Family, The H8ful Eight, The Highwaymen, The Last Samurai, The Lovely Bones, The Revenant, The Sapphires, The Stepfather, The Ugly Truth, The Untouchables, Tower Heist, Town, Whitehouse Down, Winters Tale, Woman in Gold, You've Got Mail.
