Great picnic spot

Nestors Patch is located at the end of Svendsen Road, Zilzie, not far from one of the public boat ramps in Zilzie. Zilzie is a new development area just south of Emu Park and Yeppoon along the Capricorn Coast. Zilzie was named for Zilzie Point, the coastal northern end of the suburb, which was named after a property in the area which was owned by Arthur Bootle Wilbraham, who made an anagram of Lizzie (née Jardine), the name of his wife.

Nestors Patch is a parkland with some picnic tables that become a favourite place for fishermen to have a bite between their fishing. We could see some fire pits near picnic tables. Although I think I saw a sign said: "No Camping" at this location. We stopped at Nestors Patch on the way to Yeppoon Lagoon and had some lunch. It was a shady spot with plenty of big trees around. It was a windy day that day but all the trees that surround this patch shielded us from the wind. It was a rather nice place for a picnic with Cawarral Creek as a backdrop.

We saw some fishing boats in the water that day as well as some people fishing from a small pier not far from the boat ramp. The pier is made out of a few slabs of cement that move along with the waves between its join. It was cool and terrifying at the same time standing on a moving pier but the three fishermen there didn't look bothered at all.

It said that you can find Bream, Grunter, Flathead and Whiting. The big Bream are best targeted in the cooler months around the spawning time. Flathead fish well all year round but are particularly good during the lead up to the warmer months. Whiting can be fished for all year round but is the most abundant during the summer months around weed beds and sand flats.

We were planning to get down to the water, but changed our plan when we saw a sign that said "Be Croc Wise in Croc Country". We asked the fisherman about the sign (as they were very close to the water) but they said that even though there is a crocodile farm not far from the creek, they have never seen crocs around this fishing spot. We still decided to not go in the water, just to be on the safe side.

There is plenty of room for cars and boats to park here. There is an amenities block with some interesting murals on its water tank.
