The most fun way to do your grocery shopping
I love markets. They do not only have the freshest and cheapest produce you can find but they are also a great opportunity to take some time off, enjoy a cup of coffee, buy something from the food stalls and just to have a fun and relaxed morning.

The Nerang market is certainly one of the bigger markets here on the Gold Coast. It is located on Lavelle Street and even though it is always really busy you will always find a carpark. It starts at 6 am and finished at around 12 pm on Sundays with the biggest bargains to be made at around 11am. If you get there really early you will have a really great choice and if you get there rather late you will not have that much to choose from but everything you will buy will be ridiculously cheap (and who wants to get up THAT early on a Sunday?).

The stalls range from fruit and veg, meat, fresh fish, plants, honey, eggs to really good artisan bread (that French bakery is absolutely amazing: try their almond croissants!). You will find spice, nut, coffee bean and health food stalls and there are also plenty of food stalls which offer from German Bratwurst to Curry pretty much everything and you can also grab a coffee while you are there from one of the local cafes or from the coffee stall. There are also heaps of stalls that don't sell food but clothes, jewellery, toys, chopping boards.

Please note that there is no dogs and no smoking permitted and please bring your own shopping bags (although plastic bags will be provided).

Another reason why I love markets so much is because you are supporting local farmers and not just corporate giants like the big supermarket chains. It is also a great way to reduce your plastic wastage as many fruit and vegetables don't come wrapped in plastic, so you can actually work on saving the environment whilst doing your grocery shopping!

I wonder why it opens so early. It seems like a wasted business opportunity (and a wasted lie in). They could open two or three hours later, then close around two or three. Probably get a lot more customers.
