Melbourne Zoo is offering patrons an opportunity to come and experience Melbourne Zoo in the most memorable way. For only a handful of days in April, Melbourne Zoo will become a vast and flamboyant playground featuring neon lights, projections, interactive performances, art installations and more.
Neon Playground is a special event which will run from 12 April to 27 April 2019 from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. This event is aimed at celebrating wildlife conservation and will raise precious funds for the conservation of the critically endangered Southern Corroboree Frog. It is estimated that there are less than 100 of these frogs left in the wild. It is one of the 21 local threatened species Zoos Victoria is saving from extinction. As well as immense entertainment, this event will allow patrons to learn more about the Southern Corroboree Frog and the important work being done by Zoos Victoria.
Neon Playground will provide a platform for local light and visual artists to demonstrate their unique talents. Some of the highlights of the event include 'Journey through Awareness Alley' which will showcase dynamic laser art along Melbourne Zoo's historic Main Drive and 'Graeme Base's Waterhole' involving colourful and animated giant tortoises. There will be a huge neon maze featuring 600 metres of LED neon suspended from the ground creating a labyrinth of light. Food and drinks will also be available to sate your hunger. At 'Relaxoland', you will be able to buy food and drinks from food trucks and bars.
