Showcasing the best of Melbourne's vibrant independent theatre scene, the
Neon Festival of Independent Theatre sees five independent Melbourne companies producing eight unique and interesting plays.
Produced to arouse the senses, Little Ones Theatre's
Dangerous Liaisons is described as "sex, gender and power-play riotously taking to the stage in an opulent salon of debauchery".
Arousing a sense of fear, NEON UP LATE:
Lord Willing and the Creek Don't Rise, presented by NEON UP LATE with MKA, explores the realm of army vets committing suicide, cannibalism and natural disasters.
NEON UP LATE:
Triumph explores the effects of trauma and how pain is processed; and NEON UP LATE:
Alraune is described as "a contradictory tale of sexual double-standards, lust and science gone wrong".
Need to restore your faith in humankind?
Resplendence, presented by angus cerini/doubletap, reveals the resplendent human condition, illuminating the bit of good in the worst of human nature.
Learn about the little known but fascinating Louise Augustine Gleizes, who was an extraordinarily influential figure in modern psychology, in
Photographs of A, presented by Antechamber Productions and Daniel Keene.
For those looking for a bit of drama - mixed with opera-noir and cabaret - Arthur's
The Myth Project: Twin will have you asking yourself how far you would go to save your own blood.
Hate being defined by what you do? Sans Hotel's humourous and insightful
Green Screen delves into how we would define ourselves if we could no longer be defined by what we do.
Each play costs from $5 to $25 or you can see all five plays for $100 with a NEON Pass.
The festival also includes Neon Extra, a range of free events that explore theatre from all angles and invite collaboration, connection, discussion and debate; and the Neon Goat Bar, which will ensure your thirst doesn't go un-quenched.
