A fun afternoon or a night out for teens
There are plenty of art program and events for children aged 12 and under, but not too many choices for teenagers. But here is some great news for the parents who struggle to find things to do for their teens. The Art Gallery of South Australia now runs a program called "Neo" for the 13-17 year olds. Neo runs a bimonthly event either on a Friday night or on a Saturday afternoon in the Art Gallery.
Every Neo event lasts between 2 to 4 hours depending on the theme and the activities. The teens got to design their own cycling vest, make their own artwork with straws and create a diorama (3D miniature) in a box during the last three events.
There is very little chance that your teens will wander off as the activities are engaging. With a digital sign-in and sign-out process parents can be assured that their teenage kids are safe. After all, it is a real teenager event - parents are not allowed to join in.
Have I not mentioned that all this is free? Thanks to the Belnaves Foundation. The next event "Art from Everything!" will be held on 3rd December from 12 to 4pm. Registrations open 1st November. Why not book it in so the teens can be occupied for a fun afternoon while the parents go secret Christmas shopping! If you are a teenager, you can sign up yourself with parental consent. Since catering is provided, all food allergy concerns or specific dietary requirements should be provided to the Art Gallery in advance.
