Where else would you find the freshest seafood than the fisherman's co-op. Well if you are in Port Stephens, you are in luck. Just head down to the marina and you will find imported and the freshest local seafood at Nelson Bay Fisherman's Wharf seafood. They are with the fisherman's co-op and get the fish straight off the trawlers and local oysters from just up the road.

Enter the shop and there is a massive display case with loads of seafood on ice. Choose your fish and they will happily clean and fillet it for you if you want. There is also a selection of ready prepared seafood dishes you can take home and cook. The local prawns and oysters are also a favourite of the locals.

Of course not every one wants to go the DIY method and you are in luck. The other side of the building and run by the same friendly staff is Bud's Fish and Chips. They have continuously won awards for their fish and chips since 2003. Winning their first Regional NSW best fish and chips run by the Sydney fish markets every two years. They retained first place in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011.

There is a choice of traditional fish and chips, seafood basket and calamari and chips that you would expect from a fish and chip shop.

There is also a choice of fresh in season local seafood on display that can be cooked to your liking and a selection of grilled fish. For the healthy minded people, a range of salads are available with your meal as well.

They have daily blackboard specials on offer, alongside their regular specials like salt and pepper squid and garlic chilli prawns.

Freshly shucked Port Stephens oysters and local prawns are also available if you would like some cold seafood instead.

After you have made the hard decision of what to eat, you can take a seat in their alfresco area and enjoy the views over the marina and out onto the entrance to Port Stephens while you wait for them to freshly prepare your meal and then take your time to enjoy some great seafood, but please don't feed the local wildlife.

There is only paid parking in the area, but the nice people at buds will give their customers ½ hour free parking, you just need to get your free ticket from the machine and place it on your dash board. Then you can enjoy your meal or pick up some fresh seafood and not have to worry about the ranger booking you.
