Every once in a while a venue in Sydney is taken over by anime-enthusiasts and lovers of 'neko', which is Japanese for cat. If you are looking for a unique night out, take part in this eccentric cosplay party, inspired by anime clubs in Akihabara , Japan.

A big part of the event is dressing up. Have a favourite anime character you've been wanting to reincarnate? Ideas on how to portray a cat? A costume idea you've been waiting for the right time to debut? This is a great opportunity to show it off. Expect lots of fluffy attire, colourful hair and make-up, and lots of unique get-ups.

Cheesy anime tunes, and hard-dance electronic music will give your feet something to groove to all night long. The headliner is Teddyloid, renowned for his Japanese electronic dance tracks that are complemented by vibrant animations and bizarre imagery (often sexually-charged). If you want a taste of what you're in for, check out his video for 'Me! Me! Me!'.

The second headliner is one of my favourite happy hardcore dj's, S3RL . He is the number one hard dance DJ in Australia, and ranked 11 in the world. I love his high energy music with often super cheesy lyrics reminiscent of anime. Too much fun to not only dance but sing along to. For a taste, check out 'Little Kandi Raver'.

With fun music and fun costumes promised, what else might entice you about Neko Nation? The novel side shows going on. Cat-girl go-go dancers and poi twirlers among other things will keep you entertained. There will also be a Maid Cafe element with cat-girls serving trays of sushi and cat-boys serving up candy - perfect to keep you fuelled into the early hours of the morning.

Other attractions include elaborate lighting technology to add to the colourful, whacky world you'll escape to for the night, and a kandi making table - make colourful bracelets for your friends that embody the values of peace, love, unity, and respect. If you're into classic Japanese video games, you'll love the massive gaming room, and for those who enjoy getting snuggly, pillow forts are promised.

More surprises are in store for the night. A wonderful location has been selected for this round of Neko too (following the success of last time) - Manning Bar in the heart of the Sydney University. This makes it easily accessible from Central Station. Doors open at 8pm with the event running until 3am.

Presale tickets can be purchased online for $34 (with booking fee). These are recommended as they are cheaper than the door-sales ($50). Get your tickets now, and get working on a wonderful outfit for this one-of-a-kind event.
