I picked up a copy of this quirky little anthology at Comic Con Brisbane in September. It's a collection of 14 stories, in comic form, by 14 different Australian authors. Each story explores some aspect of the author's ideas about hair- whether to grow it, cut it or shave it, to be proud of it or ashamed of it and so on.

As someone who has endlessly messed with and obsessed with my own hair, this is a topic of personal interest and I found a couple of the stories very relatable. Like, "where are the cameras? How long have you been watching me?" relatable.

Some of my favourites included:

Orbit, by Alisha Jade (who can be found at Petrie Press ), about the connection between her hair and her relationship with her mother.

Dwelf Princess Goals by Sarah Winifred Searle , in which she learns to accept her body, in part through the creation of a half elf, half dwarf D&D character.

The Hardest Part by Soolagna Majumdar , about leaving behind a toxic home and learning to trust herself to make her own choices. It's intense and beautiful.

Trichophily by Michel Gerencir . This one is about being really into hair. It made me giggle.

Neither Here Nor Hair is a fun little collection that is a great way to sample the work of some Australian comic creators, and it might make you consider your assumptions about beauty. It is available through the artist's website.
