Neal Macrossan Playground is a little playground tucked away opposite Suncorp Stadium in Milton. Commonly known in our family as the "helicopter playground", it is a huge hit with kids - particularly kids with a passion for helicopters or boats or other vehicle-related obsessions.

There are 2 distinct sections to the playground. The higher section, which is better for older children, includes a large wooden climbing gym, complete with rope ladders, rope and wooden bridges, monkey bars - everything active children need to swing, climb and jump around.

A few meters away, the lower section caters brilliantly for younger children and contains the hugely popular helicopter. The helicopter itself is a seat within a framework with a dashboard and movable steering wheel (always a hit with kids of all ages). However as I was reliably informed by my son and his friends, it is the 'rotor blades' that are the real treat. Kids can turn a wheel inside the roof of the helicopter making the 'blades' on top of the helicopter turn with a very satisfying "wocca wocca" sound.

Nearby is the boat, which was equally as popular with the kids. Again it has the movable steering wheel and has an absorbing outboard motor attached to the back, which seemed to fascinate my small people. There is even a fishing rod next the boat. In addition to these, there are also smaller climbing gyms, rope bridges and swings.

On the downside, the playgrounds have the somewhat annoying bark underfoot, which tend to get eaten in handfuls by my babies and stick to the clothing of everyone, but there are large grassed areas in the park too. Both sections of playground are beautifully shaded by grand old trees and shade cloths, making it perfect for sunny days. A toilet block, BBQ, seating and tables add to the great facilities of Neal Macrossan Park. There is good parking on the surrounding streets, particularly Moreton, Chrystal and Caroline streets.

The day we spent at this park involved a lot of running, climbing and jumping, helicopter crashes followed by multiple helicopter rescues and the netting of several gigantic fish - all around a very good day by anyone's standards.
