It has been another season full of twists and turns, and despite the surprises one thing still remains the same; the 2015/16 Swisse Grand Final Series will feature the two greatest teams of the modern era, the Perth Wildcats will front up with their intense rivals the Auckland-based NZ Skycity Breakers and are aiming for a fifth.

These two wonderful sides have shared the last six championships between them, and that domination is set to to continue regardless of which side actually lifts the trophy this time round.

The New Zealand Skycity Breakers have won four championships, including a threepeat and are aiming for a fifth title as they try for another back to back again.

The Perth Wildcats, the best of the Australian-based sides, have won two championships in the past six years and have reached the post-season 30 consecutive times, holding the record for the longest winning streak by any professional club in world sport.

Both clubs are stacked full with real talent, a mix of ageless veterans, good role players, superstar imports and young rising stars

This dream finish to the season almost didn't happen. The Wildcats struggled in its semi-final series against Illawarra, and the Breakers had a terrible mid- season losing six games on the trot and were all but out of contention with just two weeks to go in the regular season, before miraculously making the top four and a clean sweep of the minor premiers Melbourne.

The result was claimed to be testament to the old adage that defence wins championships with both the Wildcats and the Breakers knocking out the two most offensive teams in the process.

And so the two most dominant ball clubs of the modern era will battle it out in the best of three series once again this time around. When it comes down to the nitty gritty of the Australian NBL, either of these two super sides can beat each other, despite their positions on the ladder.

The next epic chapter in this great rivalry is set to be written in a matter of days, and could prove to be the best ever. It certainly won't be the worst or the last!

Australasian basketball aficionadas and fans are so, so lucky to have two such great ball teams. The countdown to game one has already begun and the winner of that game will have a distinct advantage in the best of three games series.
