Grasping the bottle firmly in her little mouth, Sparkles is guzzling its milky contents like it's liquid gold. This is one cute kid! With her short, fine white coat, Sparkles reminds me of a dog - she is docile, affectionate and loves being pat.

Sparkles is just one of the 40 kids that call Naughty Little Kids farm home. Located at Peaks Crossing, this small family-run farm creates delectable gelato from goat milk and its tours will delight both young and old.

Their 110 goats can be found peacefully grazing in the paddocks with two adorable dogs. Sparkles is a Saanen, one of the two main breeds found on the farm. This breed produces low fat milk at a high quantity. Bottle feeding will continue for another month before Sparkles can graze and drink by herself.

Once Sparkles had polished off her bottle, we made our way into the milking shed where a British Alpine was ready and waiting. A gooey mixture of softened wheat and corn was poured into a bucket to keep her occupied while we were shown how to milk. This was harder than it looked!

This hand milking was purely a demonstration as the goats are milked by an electronic milker, morning and night. The morning milk is moved to the factory while the evening milk is stored in cool rooms. All stages of production take place on the farm from milking to manufacturing and packaging.

Following the milking, we were led to a shaded area where an outdoor kitchen was set up. Cheese making was about to begin! Two litres of milk was poured into the saucepan. Once it had boiled, lemon juice was added. The mixture was then poured through a sieve, separating the curds and whey. We were invited to taste chilled goat milk and a sample of ricotta that had been made previously. Full of flavour, it was delicious!

A visit to this farm would not be complete without sampling the gelato. We tasted all five flavours – vanilla, chocolate, mint, coffee and strawberry. The gelato contains no artificial flavours or preservatives and is free from gluten and nuts. To create the strawberry gelato's rich colour and flavour, the farm adds its own strawberry jam. The mint was my favourite – very refreshing on a hot day. Its flavour is derived from steeped mint leaves.

Naughty Little Kids have received accreditation from Safe Food Queensland to produce gelato from their own goat milk.
