When on holidays or just being out for fun finding the experience that is a little different just makes the difference, doesn't it? Well, to tell you the truth we found this beauty of a
Public Outdoor Swimming Pool with no chlorine!

How does that work? Well in Schoellkrippen, about 60 mins east of Frankfurt, very close to Aschaffenburg the community decided to change the traditional outdoor swimming pool into a natural adventure pool. Once completed it
won the EON Environmental Prize by the then Bavarian Minister of the Environment. Pretty cool, uh?
The swimming pool covers a water surface of approx. 2350 m² and has a water depth of up to 6 m and a water volume of about 3700 m³. Dargh, why am I so obsessed with this information? Well, my husband, kids and nephews had a debate about how deep the water was etc… So we had to jump onto the website of the Naturerlebnisbad and voila this is what was confirmed – Oh, and because we thought that some of you might find it a bit tricky to understand German, well here you have most of the details in English...

But not only the big kids/adults are looked after. In fact, it is one of the best water play parks that I have discovered and I wish I would know of such a beauty here in Australia (yet to be discovered I hope or if you know of anything, please point me into the right direction). The small kids' section (Infants/Toddlers) has about 150 m² of water to splash around in, with a max. depth of 30cm and a little water slide for the kids to practice on as well. In addition to this, they have a little rocky creek (very shallow) for the kids to play in.

But my question was
how is the water actually being cleaned? I mean no chlorine is amazing, but then what about all the ……?[/B]
The cleaning/treatment pools cover an area of about 2000 m², divided into
two filter ponds. Their water depth is 80cm with a water volume capacity of 2000 m³.
The water quality is ensured without the addition of chemicals through the self-cleaning mechanisms of natural waters and by a constant circulation of the water. The "technical wetland" with reeds, sand, gravel and a fine filter naturally and gently cleans the water and makes it crystal clear. The clear water flowing back into the pool is perfect for toddlers and allergy sufferers. The water is quickly heated up by the sun and reaches pleasant bathing temperatures already early in the year (some would say, not me).
