Short nature walk
Pelham Reserve is located just outside Toodyay town-site. The Reserve offers a range of walking tracks, one of which is Rifle Range loop. This track is so named because of the rifle range that once operated here, with visible remnants remaining.
This is a fairly short, yet undulating, 1.2km loop walk. You can easily extend the walk by joining in to one of the other trails. The vegetation is predominantly wandoo (Eucalyptus wandoo) and jam gum (Acacia acuminate). Although the vegetation is fairly degraded the undulations and peaks offer some fantastic views in parts. At dusk and dawn expect to see kangaroos and other wildlife.
The loop track was fine to traverse with a pram but care must be taken. Wear closed, sturdy shoes as the gravel can sometimes be slippery, and bring water. The track was walked in summer but may be muddy in the wet.
The main lookout also houses the Toodyay town water supply tank and there are toilets located here. A map of the trails is available here.
