Mount George Conservation Park
I was recently introduced to nature journaling and found it to be a rewarding experience. Although mainly practised by naturalists and ecologists, anyone can capture their observations while exploring a national park or any nearby open spaces including their own backyard. All you need is a notebook and some coloured pencils.

Last weekend, a group of us went exploring at Mount George Conservation Park in the Adelaide Hills. Inspired by the beauty of the bush, we each had a go at either drawing a picture or writing a poem. I chose to draw. I watched the birds and noted their features, beaks and feet in particular. I also observed the behaviours of the larger animals. All in all, we were journaling away for a good hour and a half that morning.

Nature journaling is easy and flexible enough for every member of the family. I would recommend it if you're looking for a new way to enjoy one of our many
national parks. It'll be as though you are seeing nature with a fresh pair of eyes. The 3-step process involves (1) grabbing your notebook and coloured pencils, (2) finding inspiration in the bush or elsewhere, and (3) drawing/writing what you observe.
