An exhibition of paintings, photography & sculptural glass

The Hawkesbury Artists and Artisans Trail (HAAT) is excited to present their latest event this Autumn, 'Nature in Focus', a FREE group exhibition at Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts in Katoomba.

Opening on Tuesday 30th April 2019, this unique showcase of HAAT members' paintings, drawings, photography and sculptural glass celebrate the diverse nature of the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and further afield.

Look forward to a diverse range of photography, watercolour, mixed media, soft pastels, acrylics, handblown glass in a variety of colours, styles and themes.

Highlights include:

  • Leanne Jones, a watercolourist whose colourful and vibrant paintings are created with transparent watercolours, drawing and collage. The paintings she's created for this exhibition are inspired by The Gardens of Stone in the Blue Mountains and Lithgow Regions and Upper Colo River in the Hawkesbury. Using watercolour and collage with mixed media allows Leanne to create interesting textures on canvas to convey the rugged beauty of the rocky escarpments in the landscapes she loves to visit and where she always feels a sense of place.

  • Taryn Malzard's beautiful paintings are created with soft pastels and are inspired by her love of the outdoors and in particular, her recent explorations as a climber exploring the Blue Mountains Canyons, where she has spent many hours examining this incredible environment as she takes in the colours and textures of the escarpments and of the lush canyon underworlds.

  • Nikkola Berrington is a photographer who has captured the beauty of the natural world that she lives in. She is drawn to the richness of colours, textures and forms that plants have and the form they take on as they die. Her images show these colours and textures and help us to appreciate their existence even in death and decay.

  • Sophie Evangelidis is drawn to the beauty and solitude of 'Wheeny Creek,' a beautiful part of the national park in the Hawkesbury. The beauty of the Australian bush and native flowers inspired her to create her impressions using mixed media, oils and watercolour for these delightful works of art.

  • Yvonne West enjoys painting the landscape and her most recent paintings capture the abstraction and colours of Arkaroola in the Flinders Ranges, where she created works which are very different from her traditional methods of capturing the sense of place that inspires her. She has used collage and mixed media to capture the colours and textures in the ancient rock formations that surrounded her on her most recent travels.

  • Jeanette Starr is an artist originally from the UK, who works in all mediums and she loves drawing, painting and creating paintings full of character and expression. Her works feature most subject matter and, in particular, she enjoys painting people, animals and wildlife and she is inspired by the scenery of her surroundings on a historic horse stud at Grose Wold.

  • James Fletcher is an artisan who creates works in handblown glass inspired by the landscape in which he spends time hiking in, which gives him all the inspiration to create his pieces. His creations are very challenging to create in hot glass which is durable but fragile, cool and smooth to the touch, alive with light and colour.
