Natural skin care makes sense to me. If everything you put onto your skin is absorbed into your body, shouldn't we be a bit savvy?

A lady called Elaine Hollingsworth says in her book "Take control of your health" that any face cream that you put on your skin, you should also be able to put in your mouth.

Elaine is outspoken about the medical industry but passionate about our looking after our precious bodies. She is a walking encyclopaedia after spending decades in the health industry.

Here are my top 5 tips for good natural skin care:

The first one was Elaine's tip from her book.

Coconut Oil

Organic coconut oil is so good for you, they recommend you eat a spoonful each day. I lather it onto my face (and throw a spoonful in the bath) at every opportunity.

Olive Oil
Rub this over your face and using a damp cotton pad soaked in warm water, gently wipe excess oil off. It's great for removing make up.

Oats
Another naturally fabulous natural food we can also use on our skin. Experiment! One way is soak the oats in a few drops of milk or warm water, add a little honey and dab onto your face. Leave it on for half and hour (whilst you sit and read a book & sip a herb tea). Your skin will feel so soft when you wash it off.

Honey
My favourite honey is "manuka" because of its high anti bacterial properties. Honestly for a few dollars more, it's worth while buying (bearing in mind most skin creams are extremely costly!)

Aloe Vera
Grow your own plant and if you have skin irritations or especially sun burn, slice open a leaf and remove the gel inside. Aloe is a soothing cooling gel and full of vitamins. It hydrates, nourishes and helps generate new skin tissue.

There are also dozens of home made fruity recipes available on the internet which one can experiment with such as: strawberries, banana, papaya, avocado, apricots and cucumber. You can mix a little natural yoghurt or honey in with these to thicken them slightly.

You may also like to purchase a few organic oils from the health food shop such as rose hip, macadamia, almond, avocado and experiment with these too. Cost: approx $10 a bottle.

Keeping your skin care simple and natural is a great gift you can give yourself. Sure, it's a bit messy and time consuming but given that we want to preserve our lovely skins, isn't it worth the effort?

Also, a healthy diet, exercise, good sleep at night and plenty of water is essential to give ourselves the best possible chance of looking after our skin.

Maybe we can starve off the old botox after all!
