Stop the gastro with activated charcoal
Gastro. You first know you've got it by that ominous gurgling feeling that rolls around in your guts and threatens to exit your body any way it can find.

There is an outbreak of summer gastro going on in Melbourne at the moment. Where it started, nobody knows and where it ends is anybody's guess but if you find yourself struck down with the dreaded lurgy, there is something you can take to ease the ride.

Activated charcoal.

Yes. Basically, dead burnt trees. Just not like the stuff that's in the bottom of your barbecue. That's carcinogenic. The "activated" refers to a process of steam oxidisation, which makes the charcoal very porous and able to adsorb many times its own weight in toxins. In short, activated charcoal will help mop those gurgly toxins up and help keep you bursting out at either end. You'll still feel ill for a few days, but at least you'll be stoppered.

Take four capsules or 1 tablespoon of activated charcoal up to three times a day, when you get that gurgling feeling and it may very well help prevent vomiting and diarrhoea and make your gastro ride much easier to handle. It did for me.

Make sure you take the charcoal after food, and two hours before and after any other medications.
