Tue 13 May 2014
Come behind the scenes of the largest Volunteer Resource Centre in Australia and see how ordinary Queenslanders are enriching the lives of so many. Guided tours and information sessions are available on Tuesday 13th May 2014 at 10am, 12 noon and 2pm.
This is an initiative of Volunteering Gold Coast (VGG), and a highlight of a week-long celebration of volunteers and volunteering across Australia.
Volunteering Gold Coast is a not-for-profit (NFP) that provides volunteers of all ages to over 350 community organisations. They currently have over 1000 volunteer positions available across the region.
This is the 25th anniversary of National Volunteer Week (NVW), and this year's theme is 'the power of volunteering'.
Special events are being held across the Gold Coast region for the entire week, from Saturday 10th May until Sunday 18th May.
Sat May 10: National Volunteer Week Launch
Mon May 12: Empowering Women: Assist-a-Sister sale at Memento
Tues May 13: Life Member Induction & Volunteering Gold Coast Open Day
Wed May 14: Empowering Volunteers: ColourSpectrums Workshop
Thurs May 15: Empowering Seniors: Seniors Health & Lifestyle Expo
Fri May 16: Empowering the Community: Breathworks Workshop
NB: In addition to doing something really worthwhile, some people may be eligible to undertake voluntary work as a means of retaining Centrelink benefits. Voluntary work for an approved NFP may be considered an acceptable 'activity'. These provisions were introduced under the DSS Voluntary Work Initiative (VWI) and Voluntary Management Program, with a view to providing community engagement, skills and training for long-term unemployed. If interested, you may wish to contact your local Centrelink office to discuss your own unique situation.
