This is the 21st year that Planet Ark has organised the largest community tree planting and nature care event across Australia. Over 23 million trees have been planted during this time. Traditionally held on the last weekend in July to take advantage of winter rains, it is hoped that future generations will become committed environmental custodians.
With their partner Toyota Australia, they are calling on all Australians to get outside and grow. The aim is to inspire and educate people to care for our unique environment. Not only is this good for our planet but research has shown it is very beneficial for children to get outdoors and reconnect with nature.
This event is being held across various locations throughout Perth. Contact your local council for meeting sites or check out the Find a Site on Planet Ark website.
If you need some inspiration just look at these amazing photos produced by famed photographer Steve Parish, the official ambassador for National Tree day.
If you are unable to attend a community planting, why not organise to plant some trees in your own backyard with your kids. Remember trees are good for people and especially the animals and birds around us.
