What a great opportunity to see the ins and outs of the iconic National Theatre at 20 Carlisle Street (cnr Barkly Street), St Kilda. For all the theatre buffs and culture vultures out there, or those wanting to add a little more culture to their life and/or experience something new, Open Day is that moment.
Sunday 3 September 2016 from 10am to 3pm is the prime time to check out the nationally accredited Ballet and Drama courses in action, and to appreciate 80 years of celebrating this time honoured theatre. Both the drama and ballet school will be hosting a program of interactive events and classes for prospective students to come and experience. CLICK HERE to find out more about the program of events for the day.
Supported by the City of Port Phillip, attendees will be able to tour the theatre and experience all that is treasured at this very beautiful beaux arts theatre. The Ballet School will also be holding an exhibition of costumes from a range of eras, genres and shows for your enjoyment.
Eighty years ago the theatre was originally built for the presentation of films. The conversion from cinema to a live theatre venue made an impact on the world as a benchmark, and was written up in several major international journals. Along the way, there have been many amazing productions and the venue has also extended itself to be hired.
The National Theatre Drama School is Victoria's longest, established actor training institution and one of the leading acting schools in Australia, with a range of full-time and part-time courses, for all ages and backgrounds. From a professional actor training component to drama courses that include developing related skills like directing, producing, design, and writing for stage and screen, this course has churned out some very impressive graduates that include big names like Kat Stewart from Offspring to name one of many.
If theatre is the life for you, be it being a part of it as a student/performer, or you're looking into developing your/your children's career and passion, now is the time to get an insight into what's on offer. If you'd like to help out, your support is what makes it all possible.
