It was my absolute delight to be invited to the media preview of The Magistrate, starring John Lithgow. It is captured live in HD and screening in Australian cinemas by Sharmill Films. Definitely worth the visit.

We weren't quite sure what to expect, however it is actually a film of a live stage performance and what a hoot. Brilliantly acted, thought provoking, amusing, emotive. Go for the journey it will take you on.
Brilliantly directed by Tim Sheader, the cast includes John Lithgow, Nicholas Blane, Nicholas Burns, Nancy Carroll, Tamsin Carroll, Alexander Cobb, Christina Cole, Jonathan Coy, Richard Freeman, Don Gallagher, Amy Griffiths, Joshua Lacey, Christopher Logan, Nicholas Lumley, Joshua Manning, Joshua McGuire, Sean McKenzie, Sarah Ovens, Peter Polycarpou, Beverly Rudd, Roger Sloman and Jez Unwin.
Delighting audience with its clever dialogue, Cis Farington makes it very difficult to believe he is 14 years old. However, he is meant to take you on a journey of disbelief, with his smoking, gambling, wine and penchant for older women. How you ask? Agatha his mother in an age old scenario reduced five years from her true age when she married the amiable Magistrate Posket.
Only afterwards thinking through her dates and being left with no option but to also remove 5 years from her sons life expectancy too.
What unfolds is a tale of trouble as the truth is desperately attempted to be concealed. A night of fun, binging and all in all trouble lead the family into troubled waters.

The Magistrate runs 3 hours including an interval.
Filmed directly from a live show at the National Theatre, the sets are awe inspiring.
Inspired from a pop up picture book, the designed and directors wanted to present the show much like a gift wrapped pop up present for the audience and they certainly succeeded in bringing this magic through.
