The National Sustainable Living Festiva l of 2018 runs from 1-28 February with events held in Melbourne CBD and surrounds. Most of the events are free to attend, as it raises awareness and provides tools for change. Leading solutions to the ecological and social challenges we face will be showcased as the Festival continues to engage individuals and communities across Australia to host and promote their own sustainability events.

Presenting a rich program of home and lifestyle solutions, it's hoped the sustainability message will be spread to the cities, suburbs and streets of the nation. Expect talks, workshops, art, film, performance and markets to educate and inform and a clear mission to present the very best discoveries to restore a safe climate as fast as humanly possible. With everything we care about under threat, it's Climate Crunch Time; this year's Festival theme.

A feature festival event, The Big Weekend (9-11 Feb) runs over 3 days at Fed Square (corner Swanston and Flinders Street in the city) and Birrarung Marr. With over 100 exhibitors, it showcases the main attractions of the Festival's calendar. There's plenty in sustainable home and lifestyle solutions to be found, along with garden advice, fair trade products and local organic food, beer and wine. The Treadlie and Green Magazine will be back to host the always popular Treadlie bike hub to help you make the switch from horsepower to human-power.

Scour the website for all events (save your favourites to your own 'my events' page) including The Great Local Lunch hosted by Costa Georgiadis . This year, guests can also win tickets to The Great Local Lunch through sharing an inspiring story about how you are redefining local food and waste, OR contribute your harvest , grown or gleaned fresh edible produce from your backyard, farm or local neighbourhood.

Interesting talks abound with guests like Paul Hawken presenting A Plan to Reverse Global Warming . Paul has dedicated over 50 years of his life to sustainability and changing the relationship between business and the environment and authored seven books. Making Waves , an opening night feature forum brings together Japanese hibakusha survivors of the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Speakers will be the atomic bomb and nuclear testing survivors, dairy farmers, ICAN Australia Ambassador and Outreach Coordinator with stories and survival strategies to end the nuclear age. Permaculture co-founder David Holmgren leads the feature Festival forum along with permaculture experts, exploring the transformative role of Australian suburbs to activate behavioural changes, actions and solutions required for rapid transition to a carbon-positive low energy future.

The Transitions Film Festival returns to Cinema Nova in February with an epic lineup of world-changing documentaries. It has a film and speakers program that highlights the mega-trends shaping humanity. Stories about inspired visionaries, revolutionary change-makers and passionate citizens who are shaping our collective future are showcased. This is a film festival that'll change the way you'll look at the world. The program is yet to be announced, so keep checking back on the website and stay connected to the Facebook page which is filled with updates. The Facebook Events option will take you to all listed events like Shady Edibles, Re-imagining Textile Waste, The Great Cohousing Speed Date and more. There's plenty content there to take in. An informative and educational festival not to be missed, it attracts over 100,000 visits annually. Knowledge is Power!
